If you are a Chicagoan or visiting our city, Crain’s Chicago Business does a great job each week with their 10 Things to do in Chicago site. A little of this, a little of that…something for almost everyone. Check it out here.
Chicago’s Magnificent Skyline
After more than (way more than) 30 years in Chicago, that magnificent skyline still gets me every time. Approaching it from the south, either on the Dan Ryan or coming up Lake Shore Drive. From the east, sailing on our majestic Lake Michigan. From the west, watching the skyline grow with every few hundred yards of street. Or, perhaps my favorite, coming south on Lake Shore Drive. As you pass the Lincoln Park Zoo (more on that in another post), and come up over a tiny rise at North Avenue, the perspective continues to take my breath away. It’s worth the trip up LSD just to turn around and come back south just to see it one more time.
Four Farthings a Favorite Chicago Tavern
Just like Erick Anderssen, Four Farthings is one of my favorite Chicago taverns. Stepping through the doors feels like walking a bit back in time (well, other than the flat screen TVs and a few other accouterments of the 21st century). Carved wood, real bar stools, tables by big windows overlooking the street. Terrific staff, great food and, in good weather, some of the nicest outdoor dining around. And it’s a Big10 bar!
Check it out. Tell ‘em Erick sent you.
